About Us
The TFIS is one of six Area Institutes in Scotland which form an integral part of the Scottish Institute of Sport network. Officially launched in April 2001, the Tayside and Fife Institute of Sport has been set up to offer Tayside and Fife's most promising young athletes access to essential support services, wherever they live, work or train. It aims to provide selected athletes with individually tailored programmes designed to help improve their performances, achieve selection to the Scottish Institute of Sport and ultimately develop their potential to reach the top level in their chosen sport.
The Scottish Area Institutes are partnerships between the local agencies involved in the development of performance sport along with sportscotland and the Scottish Institute of Sport. Funding comes from the local partners and the sportscotland lottery fund. The six areas include: Tayside and Fife, Central, Grampian, Highland, West of Scotland and East of Scotland. They are not single site centres but networks of people, facilities and services.
The local Tayside and Fife partnership includes: Angus Council, Dundee City Council, Fife Council, Perth & Kinross Council, their respective local Sports Councils, the University of Dundee and Sport Tayside & Fife.
