Dr Niall Elliott
Dr Niall Elliott: Sports Medicine Co-ordinator
Dr Elliott graduated from the University of Dundee Medical School in 1995. He undertook training in numerous hospitals in Tayside, Edinburgh and Queensland, Australia. He is now a Sports Doctor and part-time GP, based in Broughty Ferry, Dundee. He has post graduate qualifications in Sports & Exercise Medicine, awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and holds his Fellowship in Sports & Exercise Medicine ( Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland ).
His sporting career never elevated higher that FIS Alpine ski races in Europe but he maintains his enthusiasm for winter sports with his professional role in ice-hockey as Chief Medical Officer for Ice Hockey UK and Club Doctor for the Dundee Stars Ice Hockey Team. He has worked at youth level with the British Olympic Association, being Medical Officer at the European Youth Winter Games in Bled 2003. He was one of two Medical Officers with Team GB at the Winter Olympic Games in Turin 2006.
His interests in Sports Medicine are with athlete education, ensuring proper use of prescribed medication and over-the-counter medicines. He also takes an active role in injury prevention with close team work with TFIS Physiotherapists and Scottish Institute colleagues.
He enjoys winter sports, notably skiing and has been known to play a variety of other sports, time permitting with his growing family.
