Find out a little bit more on Sophie and her Hockey career:

Q How old were you when you started and what is your first memory of your sport? I first started playing at school when I was 11 years old. I remember we were at an inter-school tournament and we had to borrow sellotape to keep our goalies kit together!

Q When did you first realize you had the potential to make it as an athlete? When I was selected for the Scotland U16 team after the inter-district tournament in Edinburgh.

Q What has been your best sporting experiences so far? Winning the U18 home nations tournament in 2008 and beating England in the final. Also gaining my first senior indoor cap in 2008 playing against Australia.

Q And the one you would rather forget? Relegation from the U18 European A Division Championship and losing every match in in the tournament!

Q Do you have time for other sports or hobbies? Unfortunately due to university commitments I don’t have time to play any other sports but during the summer I often play tennis and golf as I have much more free time.

Q Which athlete, past or present, do you admire? And why? Dame Kelly Holmes for having the belief to win gold in both the 1500m and the 800m at the Olympic Games.

Q What is your ultimate ambition? To reach the highest level I can in my sport and go to the Olympics.

Q Do you have to make any sacrifices to be the best that you can be in your sport? If so, what are they and why do you make them? Sacrifices have to be made if you want to make it far in your sport. I find it hard being at university with other people who are always going out and partying as they don’t quite understand why sometimes you just have to say no.
