Read on to find out a more on Ross and his Hockey career:

Q How old were you when you started and what is your first memory of your sport? I was 3 years old and my brother was meant to be babysitting me. He wanted to go out with his mates who went to the hockey, so he decided to go and take me along, I’ve been hooked ever since.

Q Have any family members played a sport at a high level? My older brother Niall has been at two Olympics - Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 for hockey.

Q What has been the highlight of your career?Being selected for the Delhi Commonwealth Games. Winning a medal at the World Cup qualifiers in New Zealand in 2009, especially scoring the winning goal against China to get the bronze medal. Getting my first Senior Cap against South Africa and scoring my first goal for Scotland Senior Men against Italy.

Q What has been your favourite competition venue to date and why? It has to be the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in 2009 because of the weather and the Aussie girls. And New Zealand for the World Cup qualifiers because it was a higher stage.

Q What is on your competition schedule this year? The Commonwealth Games in Delhi this October

Q What is a typical training regime for a ‘normal’ week? I do weights on Monday and Wednesday mornings at 7.30. I also train on a Monday night with TFIS. I have club fitness and training on Tuesday and Thursday. I sometimes have Scotland training on a Wednesday depending on the programme, and sometimes at weekends. I also train with TFIS on a Friday morning and then have games or training at weekends.

Q What has been your best sporting experiences so far? Australian Youth Olympic Festival.

Q And the one you would rather forget? The U21 European A Division in 2008 because we got relegated.

Q Do you have time for other sports or hobbies? I’ve not got time or energy for other sports and hobbies. I like to socialise when I have a chance.

Q Technique or physical - which do you spend most time working on to improve? Probably spend same amount of time doing both as you can always improve both aspects.

Q Which athlete, past or present, do you admire? And why? Lance Armstrong - takes someone special to do what he has done and Chris Hoy because he is a legend.

Q Who has/have had the biggest influence on you as an athlete? And why? My brother Niall has been a massive influence on me. He has shown me what you can achieve and how to do it, plus he got me started and is always giving me advice.

Q What's the best piece of advice you have been given? "we run cause we love it" and “not to be scared of anyone or team”.

Q Where do you get your inspiration and motivation from? I get my inspiration from watching my brother playing at the Olympics and I get my motivation from playing against the best players in the world and wanting to be as good as them.

Q What is your ultimate ambition? Easy, to win a medal (gold) at the Olympics!
