Sport: Hockey

Kerry Hall

Read on to find out more on Kerry and her Hockey career.

Q How old were you when you started and what is your first memory of your sport? I started playing hockey when I was only 7, however I think at this age I was more interested in drawing pictures in the sand on the astro than actually playing!

Q Did you ever play any other sport? If so, what made you change to your current sport? I used to play several sports as well as hockey- tennis, swimming, and track athletics (800m and 200m). However as school work became more demanding I decided to focus on hockey, as it was not only the sport I was most successful in, but it was the sport that I enjoyed the most. I liked the team aspect of hockey, whereas the other sports I was competing in were very individual.

Q What has been the highlight of your career?
Winning a silver medal in Madrid in the U18 Europeans in July 09 for Scotland and being awarded Kukri’s Scottish Young Player of the Year.

Q What is a typical training regime for a ‘normal’ week? 2 Institute Pitch sessions, 1 Club pitch session, 2 strength and conditioning sessions, 2 running sessions, 1 (sometimes 2) games at the weekend.

Q Could you make a career out of your sport or can you combine it with another
profession?
Unfortunately I chose the wrong sport to make a career out of! However I’m hoping to combine my hockey with my studies.

Q What is your ultimate ambition? To represent GB in the 2012 London Olympics.

Q Do you have to make any sacrifices to be the best that you can be in your sport? If so, what are they and why do you make them? Yes you have to make quite a lot of sacrifices for hockey (mainly partying) but it’s all worth it in the long run!
