Birnie Trust Sports Foundation

The Birnie Trust Sports Foundation aims to offer financial support to young people aged between 13 and 18 years, who have shown dedication, determination and promise in their chosen sport and yet find it difficult to improve and compete given certain financial contraints.

The trust aims to support those minority sports which do not receive the same level of dedicated funding which the major sports such as football, rugby, cricket and golf attract. In particular, the trust aims to help those individuals who have shown potential at either a district or national level of representation.

All applications will be considered on their merits and grants are awarded  based on the joint decisions of the trustees. References may also be sought from coaches/mentors to support applications and these should be provided within the application form. The trustees meet on a quarterly basis to review applications and awards are restriced to three in any one discipline per year.

If you are interested, please download the application form, complete and return for the attention of Andrew Shepherd to the address shown on the form.

The Foundation for Sport and the Arts

The Foundation for Sport and the Arts was established in 1991. The Foundation channels money donated by Littlewoods Gaming to a wide range of sporting and artistic causes. Since 1991 they have awarded grants worth over £350 million.

Many communities, organisations and individuals throughout Great Brtiain and Northern Ireland have benefited, from major capital projects through to modest but critical training bursaries. Their goal is to increase active participation in sport and the arts, especially amongst young people and those with more ability than resources.

Grant Award Criteria - The Foundation looks to support a wide range of activities. Their particular goal at this time is to encourage active participation by young people. They look for evidence of active fund raising, and the involvement and commitment of local people in trying to help themselves. Apart from professional football and horse racing, most socially inclusive sport is considered.

Application Process - The Foundation try hard to make the application process as straightforward as possible. All applications should be made on the questionnaire accessible via the website - www.thefsa.net - which you can print out, complete and post to the Foundation, with all relevant associated documents.
